NASS Releases Revised Spinal Cord Stimulation Coverage Recommendations

 The North American Spine Society (NASS) recently released revised coverage recommendations for spinal cord stimulation (SCS). The organization develops and updates coverage recommendations for more than 30 spine care procedures, treatments, and diagnostics.

NASS’ multidisciplinary and evidence-based medicine trained team of spine specialists spent a significant amount of time reviewing the evidence and developing this valuable resource.

“The updated NASS coverage recommendations for spinal cord stimulation (SCS) reflects the evolution of SCS literature and provides evidence-based recommendations that support appropriate coverage for SCS as a treatment for chronically painful spine conditions in patients who don’t have surgical options,” said Dr. Byron Schneider, co-chair of NASS’ Coverage Committee. “SCS is a commonly employed treatment with a significant evidence base that is rapidly growing, and these recommendations are easy to follow. They are practical coverage recommendations that facilitate continued access for properly selected patients.” 

NASS’ coverage documents continue to be used by U.S. government agencies, third-party payers, utilization management groups, spine care providers, and patients.
